
Job Description
- Cooking and preparing all menu items accurately and as specified in recipe books to maintain consistency in our regular food items
- Plating food in an aesthetically pleasing way
- Cleaning and cutting vegetables to prepare for main dishes, side dishes, and appetizers
- Working with Baristas to ensure that orders are completed according to the customers specifications
- Direct and delegate tasks to assistant cooks and prep workers for the most efficient workflow
- Train assistant cooks effectively and to produce efficient and compliant cooks
- Maintain all kitchen equipment to ensure it is always in the best working order and compliant with health codes.
- Wash and clean cooking utensils as needed.
- Ensure all dishes are cooked properly and in a timely manner
- Work with management to develop dinner menus for weekends, events and special occasions.
- Stock and prep all stations and notify management of low inventory
Skills and Prerequisites
- At least one year of professional experience or 12 weeks of training at The Atom. Must complete an evaluation and test of skills.
- Knowledge of basic culinary skills
- Work efficiently and accurately in a fast paced, high-pressure environment
- Prioritize cooking tasks to complete table orders together
- Follow recipes consistently in a scratch kitchen
- Able to operate and clean kitchen equipment such as (but not limited to) Large Flattop Grill, Hood, Turbo Ovens, Propane Stove, Convection Ovens, Meat Slicer, Blender, and Hobart Mixers
- Must be able to use sharp knives safely
- Must be able to calculate recipe variations and understand conversions
- Must be physically able to work long hours standing in a fast-paced environment
- Must have excellent communication skills to effectively interact with Assistant Cooks, Dishwashers, Prep Workers, and Baristas
Compensation
- Cooks are tipped employees. All tips are pooled at The Atom and divided between front and back of house. Because we understand you need to be able to count on your paycheck, we have created a Guaranteed Wage Program. If your hourly wage (TBD, but starts at minimum) and your reported tips do not average $18 / hr (part time) or $19 / hr (full time over 32 hrs per week), The Atom will make up the difference by adjusting your base wage. Most cooks will average higher than this amount, and we have never had to adjust wages to date.
