Barista Apprentice

Job Description

You will learn and complete the following skillsets as an apprentice.

Greet Customers and make them feel welcome.
Take food and drink orders over the counter, the phone, or by drive through.
Maintain familiarity of all menu items including drink and food items to answer questions about ingredients and preparation as needed.
Make recommendations to customers based on their preferences or allergies.
Ask all necessary questions to complete orders and reduce order errors.
Accept payments and give change as needed.
Serve food and drink orders to tables as needed
Stock supplies and notify management of low inventory
Maintain condiment areas and caddies
Must acquire and maintain an Oregon Food Handler’s Card
All front of house employees over 18 must acquire and maintain an OLCC Servers Permit.
Assist the barista with drink preparation as skills develop
Monitor the cleanliness of the dining room, barista area, and bathrooms. Clean as needed
Help with barista daily tasks as directed

Excellent listening and communication skills to effectively interact with customers and coworkers
Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills to interact in a positive manner to prevent or resolve conflicts
Strong teamwork abilities to work efficiently in a fast-paced and high-volume environment
Physically able to work on their feet for long hours and move quickly when needed

The first couple of weeks as an apprentice, you will earn minimum wage. As you develop your skillset and are able to work without significant oversight, you will be added to the tip pool. Our tip pool is divided among all employees, because we feel, at The Atom, that the customer experience is dependent on all team members doing their job well.
Once you are promoted to Barista or Server / Barista, you will receive a raise and move up to the higher tiers of the tip pool. Most Baristas find their wage plus tips earns them $18-22 / hr.
