Line Cook Apprentice

Job Description

  • Wash and prepare vegetables to be used in recipes
  • Combine ingredients for various sauces and spreads
  • Portion meats to be used in recipes
  • Assist Line Cooks in preparing meals, side dishes, and plating food in an aesthetically pleasing way
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen
  • Learn Assembly, Expo, and Grill work to assist as necessary
  • Wash and put away cooking utensils and all dishes as needed
  • Sweeping / Mopping / Wiping down equipment, shelving, and counters
  • Ensure all Health Codes are being followed
  • Must maintain a current Oregon Food Handlers Card

Skills Required

  • Basic math and fractions / Understanding recipe conversions
  • Able to handle sharp knives safely
  • Efficient cutting vegetables quickly and consistently
  • Able to follow verbal instruction and communicate effectively
  • Able to stand and work for up to 8 hours

Compensation

  • All Apprentices start at minimum wage. Once a skillset is developed enough that less oversight is required, apprentices enter the tip pool and earn tips based on the hours worked and their ability to perform tasks efficiently. Once promoted to line cook, apprentices will receive an increase in wages AND tips. Most line cooks make an average of $18-$22 / hr with their base wage plus tips.
